Let's Do groups

U3A Melbourne City offers special interest social groups that meet on a regular basis, often weekly or monthly.

Members must enrol to take part in these groups, through the MyU3A Portal or the U3A Office, tel: 03 9639 5209 or email: citymelb@u3a.org.au.

Enrolment in a Let's Do group means that your details are used by the Let's Do Group convenor to email you about forthcoming activities, such as the film that the Let's Do Movies group will be seeing the next week.

Some Let's Do groups (such as for Music and Theatre) attend paid activities such as concerts and performances. In these cases, another "class" will be created in the MyU3A Portal for separate enrolment and payment. Note that payment for these is mandatory at the time of booking, and refunds are not provided in the case of member withdrawal from an event. See the Refund Policy for details.

Let's Do groups that involve outdoor activity including cycling and all forms of walking will require participants to sign a waiver form (link to Waiver Form Cycling 2020, link to Waiver Form Walks Hikes 2020).  The relevant form should be completed, signed and handed to the leader at the first meeting.

Members are welcome and encouraged to make suggestions for activities or to volunteer to run a group. If you are interested in setting up a new Let's Do, please complete the Let's Do Proposal Form and submit this to the Secretary.

The most up-to-date information on Let's Do groups is available through the MyU3A Portal link below:

Let's Do Cycling

Coordinators: Tuesdays – Stewart Anderson; Thursdays – Lori Drake & Richard Lasek

These groups are run by experienced and fit cyclists. You can join either the group meeting on Tuesday or Thursday mornings. The groups meet at Federation Square at 9:45am and aim to return by 1:00pm. Medium-level fitness is required for the rides, which are 30-40 km round trips, with one or two hill climbs to get the heart pumping. Occasionally members of this group go on optional extended overnight rides. Registered members are required to sign the Waiver Form Cycling 2020.

Let’s Do Hiking

Coordinator: Lori Drake

This group caters for hikers with some experience who are interested in walking 10 to 20 km once a month on Tuesdays. All hikes will be accessible by public transport. There will be no café stops as we aim to be self-sufficient, with "no frills"! Subject to distance and starting point, allow for 3 to 8 hours to complete the distances planned. The coordinator is an experienced hiker and LD group leader. Participants will be required to complete the Waiver Form Walks Hikes 2020.

Let's Do Long Walks

Coordinator: Graham Ellis

We travel on the 3rd Tuesday of the month by public transport to suburban and near country areas for walks of at least two hours in total. Walking pace will be the same as for Tuesday walks for a distance of up to 10 km. We will use footpaths and walking tracks.

Meeting will be about 9am at a suburban station or Southern Cross for a train journey to the start of our walk. We will have lunch in a cafe, or we could BYO lunch in a park. This is an all day excursion with a return to central Melbourne around 4pm. People registered will receive a monthly notice of walk details and will need to enrol via the MyU3a enrolment page. Enrolments capped at 20. Participants will be required to complete the Waiver Form Walks Hikes 2020.

Let's Do Strolls

Coordinator: Guido Ballard

The intention of Let's Do Strolling (Tuesdays, 1:30pm to 2:30pm with coffee stop time added) is to provide a social gathering for those seeking a less robust activity to that provided by the other Let's Do Groups. The strolling routes will take in mostly the flat terrain areas of Melbourne City and some of the inner suburbs, excluding the more busy areas of the CBD. Like the Let's Do Walking Groups people will chat on the way to a coffee shop destination. Generally public transport will be nearby to coffee shops. This Let's Do is currently planned on a term by term basis. The group only walk when the Leader deems the weather is suitable. Please note: to ensure the health of members, the Leader main cancel events due to unfavourable weather conditions.

The group will meet at Federation Square near the Kitchen Restaurant. Maximum group number: 25. Participants will be required to complete the Waiver Form Walks Hikes 2020.

Let's Do Theatre

Coordinator: Wendy Cook

This group is for theatre lovers, with a new focus on high quality productions on relatively small stages, such as Redstitch, 45 Downstairs and Malthouse. We attend evening performances, where possible followed by Q&A sessions with directors and cast. The frequency is determined by availability of shows, but is expected to be approximately monthly. Schedule will be released early in 2020. Members are responsible for organizing their own tickets.

Let's Do Walks

Coordinators: Tuesdays 10am – Margaret Wyatt; Fridays 10:30am – Guido Ballard

These groups meet every Tuesday or Friday outside Taxi Kitchen restaurant at Federation square at either 10:00am or 10:30am (Friday group) and heads off in any direction. We aim to walk 5 to 7 km. The only prerequisite is comfy walking shoes. We tend to chat while we walk and there is either a coffee stop along the way (Tuesday group) or at the end (Friday group). Sometimes we will take public transport to or from our destination so it is always good to have a Myki card. Whilst the Intrepid Tuesday group walk no matter what the weather throws their way, the Friday group only walk when the Leader deems the weather is suitable. Please note: to ensure the health of members, the Leader main cancel events due to unfavourable weather conditions.

All members must sign the relevant physical activity waiver form (Waiver Form Walks Hikes 2020) for this course/activity before taking part. The Tutor/Convenor will provide the form.
