Like all U3As, we exist solely through the volunteering effort of our members. You can read about some of them in Volunteering Voices, a collection of personal stories.
There are many ways in which you can volunteer and we are always looking for new members willing to get involved.
One way is tutoring or running a special-interest group. Many tutors are members who have practised or taught their subject professionally for some years before retirement. Others are enthusiasts who are keen to share knowledge of their favourite hobby, pastime, or intellectual pursuit.
Another way is by running, or helping to run, a Let's Do group.  These are predominantnly social groupings focussing on specific interests, eg walking, cycling, movies, galleries, food, etc.  They can be run weekly, or monthly, or at irregular intervals.  We would be interested to here about any ideas that you might have in starting up a special interest group.
Or you could assist with sourcing interesting, topical speakers for our monthly lecture series, the Thursday Forums; or helping to organise these events.
Other volunteers are engaged in organising and staffing the office – answering enquiries, joining up new members, helping people enrol in classes or book for outings and events,  and handling mail-outs.  Our membership and enrolment system is web-based so computer literacy is essential for working in the office.
Financial, legal and policy matters are dealt with by a committee of management elected annually. The committee meets monthly. Various committee members also take on responsibilities such as coordinating courses and tutors, booking classrooms, running the office, organising social activities, and producing the newsletter.
