Our annual lecture series offers a chance for members to meet up with fellow members and hear a short talk by an interesting guest speaker.

DEALING WITH CONFLICTING DEMANDS: SEARCHING FOR MY AUTHENTIC LIFE

Iola Mathews began her career as a journalist at The Age.  She spent most of her free time caring for her elderly mother and pregnant daughter.  Iola's dilemma was how to nurture a need to write without neglecting responsibilities to loved ones. Her book  My Mother, My Writing and Me explores many of the issues facing us in our 50s and 60s and the search for an authentic life.

A fascination with Melborne's architecture inspired Jenny Davies to spend 18 months researching and writing a book about one of Melbourne's favourite landmarks - Flinders Street Station.  Jenny's animated presentation and discussion will be accompanied by a photographic slideshow as she delves into the diversity of activities that revolved around the station over its 100 years of enthralling history.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES 2010
Organised social activities include visits to famous gardens, National Trust properties, museums, galleries and theatres, coach trips and river cruises. And a winter lunch in mid-August.

Who can forget Yul and Deborah waltzing dizzily in this iconic movie musical?  Revisit the experience with our special group tickets to a matinee performance at the Sate Theatre on July 17.  Enjoy Richard Rodgers dazzling score...I Whistle a Happy Tune, Hello Young Lovers, Getting to Know You, We Kiss in a Shadow, Something Wonderful and Shall we Dance?  Performed by Orchestra Victoria.
