Dr. Peter Salmon
Currently tutoring in: Psychology
Peter is a “retired” psychologist, with a passionate interest in science. Peter is a qualified electronics engineer, mathematician and psychologist. He worked as an engineer in the field of process control for several years, which lead him into robotics and artificial intelligence systems. Inevitably this pathway took him into psychology, in search of understanding of how we learn, an exciting growth field in robotics.
Peter took up a position at Melbourne University as a Senior Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer in psychology, specialising in Adult education. After 14 years at Melbourne, he returned to the world of commerce, first as an engineer, and then as a consultant. He established a number of companies that developed human resource management software, and programs in training and development of people who were adapting to computer systems in their jobs.
Peter retired as general manager of a research organisation in 2007 and faced the terror of nothing to do! He was recommended to join U3A and like all volunteers was quickly drawn into a tutoring position. Peter is also on the general committee of U3A Melbourne City.
Peter’s interests include listening to classical music, playing the piano and guitar, yacht racing and studying history. For the last three years he has also been involved in study and updating his skills in the field of neuro-psychology, the study of how our brains operate and shape our behaviour.
