Dr Mary Sweeney

Mary has had a diverse career in both the public and private sector.   She worked as an administrator in many different organisations in Australia and Papua New Guinea during the 1960s and 1970s, including Pacific Film Laboratories in Melbourne, the National Broadcasting Commission in Port Moresby and the University of Technology in Lae.
 
During an academic career spanning a period of over 20 years, Mary taught in several universities, including Victoria University and the University of Melbourne. She has been a visiting academic at Cambridge University in the UK, American University in Washington DC and Skovde Hogskolen in Sweden. A perpetual student, Mary's qualifications include a graduate Diploma in Education and a PhD in Economics from the University of Melbourne and a graduate diploma in EDP from RMIT.
 
Interests include travelling and long-distance walking. Favourite walks include the camino de Santiago in Spain, the chemin de Saint Jaques in France and the Torres del Paine region in Patagonia.
 
The family's carbon footprint decreased significantly a couple of years ago when Mary and her Irish-Australian husband moved into an inner-city apartment. They have two children, their partners, and three grandchildren to light up their life, which they do beautifully.
