John Besley

Tutoring in:   Economics  & Psychology
John was born and raised in Melbourne and is married with two adult sons and two grandsons. He is a graduate of Melbourne, Cambridge and Monash Universities. After brief experience in the Commonwealth Department of Trade and in private industry, he embarked on a 40-year teaching career at Melbourne Grammar School - as Head of Economics, Housemaster, Registrar, and in charge of swimming and scouts. His interests include:  music, choral singing, health and fitness, yoga and meditation, philosophy and religion. He has had a long association with U3A Melbourne City, having been a member of the Management  Committee for fifteen years and President for a total of seven years. He has led a number of University Tours to the United Kingdom for Sage Travel in association with U3A Melbourne City.
John is also a registered counsellor, being a member of the Australian Counselling Association, specialising in counselling mature age clients, He is a pastoral care counsellor at two aged care facilities. His training in counselling and interest in psychology has led to his special interest in Positive Psychology. On a recent visit to England he studied the latest research in Positive Psychology at Cambridge University in preparation for the presentation of the course in the short course programme.
